J.B. Smith is the editor-in-chief of The Waco Bridge, where he oversees the news operation. He has spent 33 years in Texas journalism, 27 of them at the Waco Tribune-Herald, covering city government, the environment, immigration, and housing. His reporting has won statewide recognition, including a Headliners award for an investigative series on the deadly journey of teenagers from Mexico into the Arizona desert and the role a Baylor University DNA scientist played in identifying their remains. For the seven years before his current job he was managing editor, mentoring young reporters on both daily and in-depth work.
